Nathan Buckley has withdrawn from the North Melbourne head coaching position, which will be filled by Jaymie Graham after he crossed from Fremantle. Buckley's departure from contention has shifted attention to two other clubs.

Brisbane is now mentioned alongside Buckley as a candidate to replace outgoing coach Chris Fagan. Carlton has also been tied to the former Collingwood premiership coach, with reports describing him as a possible target during the trade period.
