The team of The Rookie has issued an apology for the abrupt cliffhanger ending to Season 8. Viewers had been left waiting after the closing scene dropped out. Creator Alexi Hawley revealed at a fan event that Season 9's opening will be extended above the usual length. Nathan Fillion announced that filming for Season Nine starts on a date in early August. At the same time, a sneak peek of a new scene recorded on the Chenford set was shared online preceding the new season.
